In 2002, a team of dancers represented Singapore in the YOSAKOI Soran Festival held in Hokkaido. It was lead by Masami Uno, a veteran performer of the dance form, which combines elements from the energetic Yosakoi dance of Kochi Prefecture and the traditional Soran Bushi folk music from Hokkaido. She was appointed as a Yosakoi Ambassador by Kochi for her work in teaching the dance to students in Singapore and Malaysia, and for leading the team Seiran “Matoi” in performing in the two countries
