Singaporean Professor helped revolutionize international calls

Prof. Chong Tow Chong, president of SUTD, is a graduate of the Tokyo Institute of Technology (1974-1978). He reminisces about the costly yet poor overseas phone calls of those days, as well as how he and his classmates, under the tutelage of Yasuharu Suematsu, discovered and received a patent for a splicing method of optical fiber cables which revolutionized communication systems.
